Fill your boots - part deux

Last week I posted a lovely little idea seen via Tenacious Dee - using old boots as plant pots in your home....

So you can imagine my delight when we got these awesome wellington boot paperweights in at the boutique the very next day!

They are vintage silver, deceptively heavy and I knew as soon as I clapped eyes on them they needed some petal styling.

Happy Thursday folks! xx

Delicious styling

It's no secret I love food (ahem) and despite being a god-awful cook, I truly appreciate food when it is made for me, and particularly, when it looks amazing.

(Thus I eat out way too much for my bank account.)

Food styling photography is the perfect combination of two of my fave things!!

That's why the latest post from the awesome Betty magazine caught my hungry eye with 'play with your food' images from Sweet Paul magazine.

These are some more inspirational pics....

This is one styling habit I will definitely be spending time on me thinks!

Have a yummy day

Fill your boots

I just lOVE what Dennise from Tenacious Dee did with a pair of her old boots.

What a fab idea!

Old worn shoes used to display new fresh flowers.

The simple things are sometimes the most inspiring. x

The art of fashion "15"

I love discovering new expressive and creative ways to look at fashion and how we perceive a growing awareness of the somewhat 'throwaway' society we live in.

As my career is in vintage clothing, I'm a firm believer in recycling garments and giving fashion multiple lives and meaning

I was therefore delighted to view a pop up exhibit called "15" down the road from our boutique today, led by graduating fashion studies student Katy Bray.

The concept behind "15" is this is the average number of garments thrown away per person each year - and developing the notion of waste as a form of inspiration instead.

The exhibit displays 15 possessions most treasured by 15 different people, and reminds us that each item is worthy of its own frame like a piece of individual art, often lost amongst 'over-stuffed and under-used closets.'

Also displayed was a striking dress made of parachutes and a side counter constructed of up cycled items presented in a chic all white panel to further highlight how unwanted 'things' can serve a purpose - and a beautiful one at that!

The project hopes to progress this philosophy by developing "15" into an ethical and original brand sold in a fashion conscious and individual shop.

I look forward to seeing more from "15" in the future!

Welcome to Wonderland....

Apologies for lack of posting of late - we opened our vintage boutique last week in the bohemian land of Boscombe in the south coast of England!

The Cherry Closet now sells in 'What Alice Found' a collaboration shop selling fashion, retro homeware and art work.

In just one week we have met some amazing customers - from local musicians to brides-to-be all looking for vintage treasures!

Situated on a long road overflowing with other vintage stores, antique shops, cafes and retro tattoo parlours we finally feel like we have come home at very long last.

Do you feel like you're where you should be? hope so!
